ChatGPT Already Knows Who's In The Running Before It Searches

Author Suganthan Mohanadasan Date 2026-08-10 Model state 57 conversations, ~600 pages read, update 2026-08-17 Open source →

Key findings

Selection happens before the search: the model writes brands and models into the fan-outs, and these are cited many times more often than anything the search additionally provides.

Checked against our data

This is the single most important observation for SEO, and it is directly visible in our product fan-outs. The same holds for German brands: whoever is not in the model's knowledge does not make it into the candidate list, no matter how the website looks.
