widget/genuiWidgets are building blocks in the answer that are not prose: a map with places (map_widget), an automation suggestion (suggest_automation), a request for the user's location (ask_user_location_v2), a news list (nav_list), a product carousel. Technically they appear as genui markers in the text and as content_references of type dil or map. Measured 22 Aug 2026: widgets in 6 of 33 runs, all on local, news and price questions.
genui_run as a call type, widgets without citations.Mohanadasan puts it briefly: widgets produce zero citations. A map shows places, a news widget shows no sources, a product carousel shows merchant offers. For SEO the widget rate per topic is therefore the inverse of citation opportunity: the more widget, the less room for links. The widget-rate metric records this.
